John Clements is a leading authority on historical fencing and one of the world's foremost practitioner-instructors of Medieval and Renaissance fighting methods. As a long-time Western martial artist who has been studying historical fencing since 1980, John is the most prolific writer on historical fencing active today. He has practiced European cut-and-thrust swordsmanship and rapier fighting for 30+ years, researched swords and arms and taught on the subject in 13 countries on four continents. Based outside Atlanta, Georgia, he instructs nationwide and internationally as well as (since summer 2005) from his one-of-a-kind private facility, Iron Door Studio. John Clements has been featured in documentaries including "Reclaiming the Blade" and most recently "Medieval Fight Book" on the National Geographic Channel in January, 2011.

Class Includes:

  • 4-hour instructional class in fundamentals of Renaissance Martial Arts and an introduction to the Longsword taught by ARMA Director John Clements.
  • Lunch at ARMA International Gathering 2011 with armor discussion by armorsmith Parker Brown of Crescent Moon Armoury.
  • Viewing of two Free-Scholar Prize Playings in Longsword for senior ranking within ARMA. The member "playing the prize" fights with the longsword against all members present for a period of one hour in order to pass the test and earn the rank of Free-Scholar.

Attendance is limited to the first 20 registrants ages 12 to adult.
Participants under 18 years of age must have parental guardian permission and sign a waiver.

Required Equipment: A longsword waster or hardwood dowel 48" long by 1" or 1-1/4" diameter. Vendors will be present on site for those who need to purchase equipment.
