Demo 2009

June 8, 2009 the ARMA North Siders were invited
to do a demonstration for the Summer Reading Program at the
Victoria Public Library in Kyle Cook's hometown of Victoria,
Texas. Kyle, Stacy Clifford, Erich Wagner, Wes White, Mike
Wrenn and Austin Fontaine made the trip out to Victoria for
the demo. Before the demo began, a local television station
interviewed Kyle about ARMA and gave a sparring demonstration
with Stacy. The demo itself lasted for two hours. The North
Siders demonstrated our drills and exercises, discussed sword
history and common myths about swords, and allowed the children
and adults in attendance to examine replica weapons and armor.
Some time was even found to discuss Stacy and Wes's current
research on Giacomo Di Grassi's single sword fighting.
The highlight, as always, was when the sparring began. The
audience was treated to bouts featuring longsword, single
sword, sword and buckler and sword and dagger with the typical
ARMA intensity. Afterward the kids were invited to spar with
our members a bit using padded swords for fun. The event was
a rousing success and the North Siders were immediately invited
to return in 2010.
